Windsor asks for $32M to prevent future flooding

The City of Windsor is keeping its fingers crossed a request for $32.1 million in federal funding to prevent basement flooding is successful.

The request was made to Infrastructure Canada's Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund. The fund covers up to 40 per cent of the cost of flood mitigation projects, and Windsor has projects worth $89.3 million planned.

"Tapping into these federal funds would be a big boost in offsetting city expenses," said Mayor Drew Dilkens. "We believe our projects align perfectly with the $2-billion DMAF program."

Among the projects submitted for grants are sewer improvements, pumping stations, and new sewer lines.

A response from Infrastructure Canada is expected later this spring.
