Windsor doctor found guilty of sexually abusing a patient

A Windsor doctor has been found guilty of sexual abuse and professional misconduct by engaging in a sexual relationship with one of his patients.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) has found that Dr. Haider Hasnain committed an act of professional misconduct when he engaged in the sexual abuse of a patient and that he has engaged in conduct that would reasonably be regarded by members as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.

Dr. Hasnain, 54, practiced at the Tecumseh Medical Centre.

CPSO discovered that sometime in May of 2009, Dr. Hasnain and a patient in her 50's, only identified as Ms. Z, started a consensual sexual relationship that continued to either December of 2009 or January of 2010 and included approximately eight to 10 occasions of mutual oral sex and one occasion of sexual intercourse, as well as other sexual activity such as mutual sexual touching.

The college said all of the sexual interactions occurred in one room within the clinic, with the exception of one encounter that occurred elsewhere in the clinic. The final sexual encounter was the sexual intercourse that took place either in late December of 2009 or early January of 2010.

Ms. Z commenced videotaping all her encounters with Dr. Hasnain, including sexual encounters, as of June 5, 2009 without his knowledge.

CPSO added a physician-patient relationship between Ms. Z and Dr. Hasnain was established on February 6, 2009 and continued until at least September 4, 2009.

Dr. Hasnain's medical licence has been suspended by the college.

A penalty hearing has not yet been scheduled.

The college could revoke his licence.
