Freezing rain overnight complicated the morning commute Wednesday, but the forecasts suggest it will be treacherous again Thursday.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority is warning of flooding across the region as snow melts. Environment Canada is also calling for up to 25 millimetres of rain for much of Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.
With the temperature falling to -4 C again overnight, all the slush and water is expected to freeze up again overnight.
"Temperature's going down below zero again tonight and remaining below zero tomorrow," said Environment Canada meteorologist Peter Kimball. "That is going to cause freezing of whatever is on the surface already. It will continue to be icy tomorrow."
The forecast also calls for the possibility of snow Thursday afternoon, Friday, and over the weekend.
Both Windsor Police and the Ontario Provincial Police responded to several accidents Wednesday morning, and the Town of Lakeshore is warning drivers even gravel roads will be slippery.
At one point, Windsor Police shut down a section of the westbound E.C. Row Expressway between Huron Church Road and Dominion Boulevard because of a two-vehicle crash. It was re-opened soon after.
Crews in Lakeshore are currently treating gravel roads with a mixture of sand and salt, and paved roads have been cleared, but drivers are still urged to take their time.
Garbage and recycling pickup may be delayed because of the weather Wednesday.
