The Essex Region Conservation Authority has updated Friday's flood watch to a flood warning.
The flood warning is in effect for the East shoreline areas of Leamington, and the north and east shorelines of Pelee Island.
The flood warning extends into areas of the western basin of Lake Erie and the mouth of the Detroit River.
The western portion of Leamington, the Town of Kingsville, the Town of Essex, and the Town of Amherstburg will be affected.
The flood warning for the western basin will affect the low-lying beach communities, and municipal and county roads close to the Lake Erie shoreline.
For Lake St. Clair, strong wave splash and spray will continue to overtop low-lying breakwalls, and water could flood in the affected areas. The Town of Lakeshore, The Town of Tecumseh and the eastern limits of the City of Windsor will be affected.
Strong winds will raise water levels in nearby rivers draining into the western basin of Lake Erie and the Detroit River.
The high water levels and strong waves also raises the possibility of nearshore erosion and breakwall damage and wave overtopping with splash and spray.
High water levels may also damage docks and other shoreline infrastructure on private lands and within marinas.
The warning is in effect until Monday at 12 p.m. and the ERCA continues to monitor the situation.
