The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Windsor man after a hydro pole was severed during a crash in Lakeshore.
The OPP said the 48-year-old man was driving a delivery truck with a large boom attached when his vehicle crashed into and severed the pole on West Belle River Road near the Canadian Pacific Railway on Monday around 10:15 a.m. The downed power lines caused a significant power outage in the Belle River area and a closure of the rail line that crosses the roadway.
"Severed wires came down onto the roof of the truck and the truck driver and his passenger, who were not injured, were forced to remain in the truck for approximately two and a half hours for the situation to be made safe by Ontario Hydro," said the OPP in a news release Monday afternoon.
The unnamed truck driver is charged with driving an over-height vehicle and careless driving.
West Belle River Road between County Road 42 and Park Lane Drive is open again after Ontario Hydro crews repaired the damage.
