After a soggy start to the season, the City of Windsor is ready to start boat tours to Peche Island.
Last month, the city delayed the start of tours because of flooding on the Detroit River island.
The tours will start Wednesday and run through to October 9 every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday weather permitting. The first boat leaves Lakeview Park Marina at 10 a.m. Until 2 p.m., there is a tour departing every hour.
If you are interested in going, remember to book ahead because space is limited. The shuttle boat can only ferry six passengers at a time, and no more than 12 passengers can be booked for each hourly departure.
Peche Island is an 86-acre island in the middle of the Detroit River between Windsor and Detroit. In 1883, Hiram Walker bought the island and used it as a summer getaway. The City of Windsor acquired the land from the province of Ontario in 1999.
