Sales may be almost flat from one year ago, but the cost of buying a home in Windsor-Essex is still climbing.
The Windsor Essex County Association of Realtors said the average price of a home sold in the region was $337,923 in June, up 11.38 per cent from the same month a year ago when a home buyer could buy a property for an average $303,384.
Before the housing market began to heat up five years ago, a buyer could expect to pay $196,973. Since then, housing prices have jumped 71.5 per cent.
A total of 629 properties changed hands in June, compared with 638 this time last year, a very slight decline of 1.4 per cent. In 2015, 598 homes sold, just five per cent less.
Realtors are still very busy. June's total listings totalled 926, an increase of 6.19 per cent from one year before, but as of this week, there were 1,181. In June 2015, there were 870.
The most popular style remains the bungalow. Realtors sold 127 bungalows last month, followed by 110 ranch-style homes, 107 two-storey homes, 73 1 1/2-storey homes, and 63 raised ranches.
