A trucker from Quebec is facing charges after a big cocaine seizure at the Ambassador Bridge.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) announced on Monday the seizure of nearly 97 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
The 80 bricks were discovered on July 30, 2019 when a tractor trailer arrived at the bridge in Windsor and was referred for a secondary examination.
"CBSA officers, assisted by a detector dog team, discovered 80 bricks of suspected cocaine inside the commercial load," the CBSA said in a news release.
Gurinder Singh, 27, of Lasalle, Quebec is charged with importing drugs and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
“This seizure and arrest demonstrate the ongoing commitment of the Canada Border Services Agency to stop the smuggling of narcotics into our communities and the diligent work that officers do on a daily basis to keep Canadians safe,” said Joe McMahon of the Canada Border Services Agency.
“Protecting Canadians and keeping drugs out of our communities is a key priority for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police," added Inspector Kevin Keane of the RCMP Windsor Detachment. "Working together with partners like the Canada Border Services Agency ensures that we meet this goal.”
