Windsor man identified as worker killed in Welland accident

A Windsor man was identified as the victim of a workplace accident in Welland last week.

The St. Catharine's Standard reported Monday 44-year-old Curtis Appleyard died November 12 after a piece of concrete fell on him at a construction site. It said the Ministry of Labour was investigating the accident.

Appleyard was said to be working for Perth County Fabrication, which was helping build a retirement residence in Welland.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in the iron worker's honour, raising almost $14,000 so far.

"He had a knack for one-liners that was hard to beat," read the GoFundMe page set up by Mike Boers. "His enthusiasm and love of learning was infectious and was always eager to contribute to the crew in any task they were working on."

An obituary further described Appleyard as "a wonderful soul with his bubbly eyes, big smile, and his genuine hugs."

The funeral was held Monday at Families First Funeral Home on Lauzon Road in Windsor.
