An employee at the City of Windsor owned long-term care facility Huron Lodge has tested positive for COVID-19 during asymptomatic testing.
Despite the one positive case, an outbreak has not been declared at the facility based on new guidelines from the Ontario government.
"If we get one asymptomatic staff member positive then the question becomes whether this is an indication of an outbreak or a declaration of an outbreak and most of the time that declaration and assessment happen after a thorough review of the cases," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex.
The employee at Huron Lodge was notified of their test results on Monday and is now self-isolating. According to the City of Windsor, the employee has confirmed that they abided by all infection control protocols while at work.
All non-essential visitors are being restricted until an investigation is done by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit. Essential visitors are defined as those who have a resident who is dying or very ill. In these instances, only one visitor will be allowed.
Families will be notified if the restrictions are lifted or if an outbreak is declared.
