Windsor-Essex no longer has the highest rate of COVID-19 in the province.
Toronto and the Peel region have now surpassed Windsor-Essex with more cases per 100,000 population. Toronto has the highest rate with 705 cases per 100,000 people. Windsor-Essex has 643 cases per 100,000 people.
Since March, Windsor-Essex has had 2,757 cases of COVID-19. There were 13 new cases reported on Friday morning. Among the new cases are six close contacts, two health care workers, one travel-related case, and one community-acquired case. One case is still under investigation by the health unit.
There are 68 active cases in the community with two people currently in hospital.
There are three workplaces in the community currently experiencing outbreaks. An outbreak was declared Friday at a business in the food and beverage industry. Details on the specific location have not been released, however, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed said the location is on the health unit's public exposure notification list.
The health unit also reported an outbreak at the Regency Park long-term care facility after one staff member and one resident tested positive for the virus.
In the last week, about 730 people a day were tested for COVID-19 at the local assessment centres. Around 80 per cent of tests were processed within two days. Over the last five weeks, about one per cent of people tested were positive for COVID-19.
