$100K donation made to Windsor Residence for Young Men

A local businessman and philanthropist is helping out the Windsor Residence for Young Men (WRYM) during a difficult year by donating $100,000.

The donation from Alan Quesnel was announced on Sunday.

“Al has been a good friend and generous supporter of The Windsor Residence for Young Men over the years,” said Executive Director Greg Goulin. “WRYM depends on community generosity and, because of COVID, fundraising has been a struggle. Al really wanted to support us in our work with young people during these difficult times.”

The Windsor non-profit organization helps homeless young men between 16 and 24 years of age by providing services such as housing, counselling, and other beneficial tools to assist in their futures.

WRYM has an annual budget of roughly $400,000 which serves on average 50 residents.

The non-profit posted a letter earlier this year, detailing the struggles it has faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, WRYM was hoping to come up with $50,000 to keep the residence operational.

“Keep up the great work that you are doing at WRYM, because you are definitely needed in the Windsor and Essex County area," said Quesnel in an e-mail that accompanied the donation.

WRYM’s statistics show an average of a 95 per cent success rate, according to a media release.
