A Windsor woman's hard work educating people about how important those with Down Syndrome are to the community has won the NFL Canada Fan of the Year Contest.
Stephanie Seguin and her family were nominated by her friend, Jen Pillon after Pillon responded to an ad she saw on Facebook.
Winners were chosen for the work they have done making their community a better place. Seguin won first prize, $30,000.
Seguin founded the Chasing Hazel Foundation after the birth of her daughter, Hazel. Its vision is to create a world that is more inclusive and where differences are celebrated and potential is highlighted.
Seguin received a call earlier this month from Nate Burleson, a former wide receiver for the Detroit Lions and co-host of NFL Good Morning Football.
"When he told me, I assumed the money was going into the charity," she said. "Afterwards, my girlfriend was like, 'Steph, I think you won the money. Like, personally.'"
Seguin's other daughter, Nola, is a big Kansas City Chiefs fan and Burleson told her the team was planning something special.
"He says to me, 'The Chiefs about this. You know, they want to put together something -- I have no idea what they're going to do -- but they're aware of you,'" explained Seguin.
There were more than 10,000 entries across the country, and the contest closed on February 7.
