Complaints lead to reminder for ATV riders in Essex County

Do you ride an off-road vehicle? The Ontario Provincial Police are reminding you to stay off private property.

There have been several complaints about ATV riders going on private land without the permission of the owner. In some cases, there has been damage in farmers' fields.

Police remind people the fields are very fragile right now while new crops begin to take hold.

Being on private property without permission is trespassing, and those who damage those fields could face mischief charges.

Complaints about off-road vehicles on roads where they are not allowed are also prevalent, and police remind riders to check with their municipality about local bylaws.

Also, riders should always wear an approved helmet while riding to avoid serious injury if they crash.

Anyone with information regarding the improper use of ATVs, or any other incident, is encouraged to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leave a tip online at www.catchcrooks.com.
