According to Elections Canada, advance polling stations in the Windsor-Essex region were very busy.
The polls were opened on September 10 and closed this past Monday at 9 p.m.
It reflected a trend across the country, although the spikes here were more pronounced.
In Windsor-Tecumseh, voter turnout increased by 68.3 per cent, from 11,755 during the advance polls in the last federal election to 19,795 votes cast this time.
Windsor-West's turnout was up 39.9 per cent, while in the riding of Essex, it was up 46.7 per cent. Voter turnout in Chatham-Kent-Leamington was 55.6 per cent.
Elections Canada released voter turnout estimates for all 338 ridings in Canada Wednesday morning.
The preliminary figures suggest some 5.7-million Canadians cast ballots in advance polling, an 18.46 per cent increase from 2019 when 4.8-million did.
"I want to thank the electors who took advantage of advance polls for their patience and their help in making this a safe experience for everyone," said Chief Electoral Officer Stephane Perrault. "I also want to thank the tens of thousands of election workers for making this possible."
The next opportunity to vote in person is on Monday, September 20. Polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
