Police are investigating threats made toward senior staff at Windsor Regional Hospital.
The hospital told BlackburnNews.com on Sunday that it had notified the Windsor Police Service of the threats, which occurred the same week as the staff COVID-19 vaccination deadline on Wednesday.
"We can confirm more than one potential threat was recently received targeting individual, senior leaders in the organization and that we have asked and received local police authority support and investigation," the hospital said in an emailed statement. "Anytime we receive a concern regarding a potential threat against anyone working at Windsor Regional Hospital we notify local police authorities."
According to Windsor Regional Hospital's COVID-19 vaccine policy, all staff were required to receive their first dose of the vaccine by September 22 or be placed on a two-week unpaid leave. Any staff members who have not received their first dose of the vaccine by October 7 could have their employment terminated.
As of Wednesday, around 140 hospital employees were found not in compliance with the first deadline and are now on an unpaid leave of absence. The hospital said earlier this week that 97 per cent of its employees have received at least one dose of the vaccine or have provided a certified medical exemption.
The hospital declined to comment further on the nature of the threats, citing an ongoing police investigation. Police were unable to comment on the investigation Sunday evening.
