The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit anticipates the location of a new safe consumption site in downtown Windsor will go before city council next month.
CEO Nicole Dupuis said the city's approval is a requirement of its application to the province and Health Canada.
"It went to our board of health last month. We had two sites that we had finally narrowed it down to and received community consultation on, and we approved the site at 628 Goyeau," she said.
The building is between Wyandotte Street East and Tuscarora Street.
"We'll be working with partners on developing the plan for that site," she continued.
The health unit first started talking about locating a safe consumption site downtown back in November 2018.
Since then, it conducted a community survey and held four public meetings over the summer to gather input from residents and answer questions.
It put out an expression of interest in August 2020 for a space to host the site.
The other option was around the corner at 101 Wyandotte Street.
