The return to Stage Two reopening for Ontario has led to action at the Municipality of Lakeshore.
The municipality announced Monday night that starting Wednesday, all recreational facilities will close for at least 21 days. These include the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre, Comber Community Centre, and Libro Community Centre.
Lakeshore will also cancel drop-in and previously-scheduled recreation programs until at least January 27. If you've registered for a program or booked a rental, you will receive a refund or a credit on your account.
Mayor Tom Bain acknowledges that these restrictions will disappoint some residents.
"As a council, we know the return of restrictions and closures of our recreation facilities will be frustrating to many of our community members," said Bain. "All we can ask is for everyone to continue to do their part; get vaccinated, reduce close contacts, and stay home if you're sick. There is an end in sight, and we’ll get there together as a community."
The Municipal Offices will be open for essential services. All residents are encouraged to conduct business online or by phone, but those who must visit the offices must be masked and must fill out a COVID-19 screening form.
Lakeshore is the latest Windsor-Essex municipality to announce service restrictions due to the rise in cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. The Town of Tecumseh has kept Town Hall closed along with halls, clubs, and satellite facilities associated with public works, parks and fire stations. Tecumseh Arena is open but under capacity restrictions.
