Until the winds die down later Wednesday afternoon, the Essex Region Conservation Authority is warning residents living along the Lake Erie shoreline and the southern shore of Pelee Island about flooding.
It has issued a shoreline statement.
The winds are blowing out of the southwest with sustained speeds of 40 km/h and gusts of up to 60 km/h.
Add that to high lake levels, and there could be wave overtopping, shoreline erosion, and excess water in low-lying areas.
Residents should stay away from areas where it's flooding, along with rivers, streams, and banks. Children, pets, and livestock should be kept away from flowing or standing water.
Officials will continue to monitor conditions, but the statement ends at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
