A major project could be coming to Windsor's Walkerville neighbourhood, transforming two Hiram Walker buildings into a place to live, work, play, and stay.
That's the motto of the new Distillery Square project.
The Rosati Group and Walkerville Brewery co-owner Mike Brkovich plan to turn the two buildings, on Argyle Road at Wyandotte Street East, into loft-style condominiums with a boutique hotel, offices, retail space, and restaurants.
Preliminary meetings with city officials have already taken place, and the team hopes to present their vision to the Planning Committee soon.
Rosati Owner, Tony Rosati, said work is already underway with the renovations at the Strathcona Building at the corner of Wyandotte Street East and Devonshire Road.
The project has been in the works for over a year now. Once the partnership has the approvals in hand, it hopes to start construction at the end of this year. The development could open doors in two or three years, said Rosati.
"We wanted to see Walkerville preserve its history, and also enhance the history that we have, and showcase it," he said. "It's a legacy project for both of us."
Walkerville Brewery will be an essential part of the project, said Rosati.
Many of the details are still being worked out, including the total economic worth of the development.
