Two Windsor-Essex municipalities will take advantage of the province's relaxing COVID-19 restrictions.
The Town of LaSalle and the Municipality of Leamington have each announced plans to reopen their facilities, after the provincial government allowed for them to gradually reopen following the latest engaging of "circuit breakers" designed to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.
LaSalle
Municipal buildings in LaSalle will reopen starting on Friday, with the LaSalle Civic Centre. Access to the building, for town business only, will be limited to the expanded capacity of 50 per cent. Anyone speaking face to face with town staff will require proof of vaccination and must wear a face covering. However, if you're just dropping off or picking up documents, you will not need to show proof. The Civic Centre is accessible to people with appointments only. The Vollmer Recreation Complex will reopen on Monday for all ice rentals and use of the fitness centre. Fitness or pool patrons with prepaid memberships had their memberships extended during the recent closure. Winter session programs from the recreation department will begin Monday, with start and end dates adjusted.
Visitors must pre-register for activities such as open swim, leisure swim in the shallow pool, parent and tot skating, and recreational skating. However, other activities in the pool or on the ice will not require pre-registration and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The LaSalle branch of the Essex County Library will reopen Monday for in-person use. Visitors do not need proof of vaccination but must wear face coverings.
Leamington
The Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre will reopen on Monday for recreational programs, subject to the province's capacity regulations.
The municipality's winter recreation program will resume. Telephone and online registration are underway, with in-person registration resuming on Monday. You can check out the winter schedule on the municipality's recreational website.
Proof of vaccination is required to enter the centre for those 12 and older, and visitors will be subject to a COVID-19 screening. Mask use is required.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit continues to operate a vaccination clinic in the centre's gymnasium.
