Downtown Windsor's upcoming farmers' market will provide more opportunities throughout 2022.
When the market's seventh season begins, it will be expanded to a nine-month season, opening on April 2 and ending on December 10, a total of 37 Saturdays.
The Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market (DWFM) has opened up opportunities for vendors to declare their commitments for the coming season, for full-season, half-season, part-time, and occasional occupancy.
"There's been a growing movement to buy local and to seek out quality produce from our very own backyards," said market manager Steve Green. "These rain-or-shine events are always so highly anticipated at the beginning of the spring and summer seasons, and we're so excited to be able to provide a space for vendors and entrepreneurs to have nearly a year-round space to work, with residents and visitors of the core having access to locally grown, farm-fresh products and artisanal goods not readily available at grocery stores."
The market will once again occupy most of Pelissier Street between University Avenue West and Wyandotte Street West, plus Maiden Lane. Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) Chairman Brian Yeomans said plans are already in the works for a safe market.
"We'll continue to work closely with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and Farmers Market Ontario to ensure that social distancing measures and safety protocols are in place when the market opens," said Yeomans. "For as long as those measures are required, we'll respect them, as the Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market is an integral part of the urban/farm linkage and safety is paramount."
Vendors interested in market space are asked to submit an application through the official DWFM website.
