Leamington branch library to reopen Wednesday

An Essex County Library branch closed due to flooding is ready to welcome back bookworms.

The Leamington branch of the county library will reopen Wednesday morning after being shut down Friday following heavy rains in the area, which caused some flood damage.

Interim CEO and Chief Librarian Kristie Cronin told WindsorNewsToday.ca on Friday that the damage mostly involved the floor.

"There is quite a bit of water covering the floor. I’ve only seen one photo of one area, but it looks to be low-level water through at least a portion of the branch," said Cronin.

The library said Tuesday evening that no shelves were damaged, and there was no reported damage to books. The carpet has been dried, and the building is free of water.

Library staff would like to thank residents for their patience while the mess was cleaned up.

Hours for the Leamington branch are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday during the summer, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, according to the library website.
