City names Daher as new health commissioner

It took some time, but the City of Windsor has named its new health and human services commissioner.

Andrew Daher, the City's Executive Director of Employment and Social Services, has accepted the position of Commissioner of Human and Health Services. He succeeds Jelena Payne, who moved into another City role earlier this year.

"It has been my privilege to work with so many passionate and dedicated staff and community partners in my career, particularly the team in Human and Health Services," said Daher. "My predecessors were exceptional role models and I look forward to continuing the positive momentum established through their leadership to support the residents of Windsor and Essex County." Daher's first day in his new job is September 6.

Windsor CAO Onorio Colucci said it was Daher's energy and drive that sealed the deal.

"Having worked with Andrew throughout his career with the City of Windsor, I know firsthand the passion and incredible work ethic that he brings to all his endeavours," said Colucci. "I have no doubt that these traits will lead to continued success in his important new role with the corporation."

He also serves on the board of directors at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare and has been active in many local organizations.

The Windsor native graduated from the University of Windsor with an Honours degree in Business Administration. He also holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Wayne State University in Detroit, a Masters Certificate in Municipal Leadership and is a Chartered Professional Accountant.

Daher steps in for Debbie Cercone, who is retiring from the City after serving as the acting health commissioner, and previously running the City's housing and children's services office.
