The City of Windsor Parks and Recreation is still ramping up program offerings to pre-pandemic levels.
The Learn-To-Swim schedule has already been released and many classes are filling up fast.
Adventure Bay Family Water Park will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. During the week, the facilities will be open for programming only.
"Certainly there are some folks who would like to see the hours be longer but we're continuing to try to mitigate our staffing shortages," said Jennifer Knights, executive director of Recreation and Culture with the City of Windsor. "We are looking to expand those once we secure additional staffing and have additional demand."
Staffing continues to be the biggest barrier to offering recreational programs at pre-pandemic levels. During the summer months, the aquatics department only had around 70 per cent of its normal staff level.
"We're still actively recruiting and staff are still finalizing our new hires," said Knights. "We have an ongoing posting and we also held a job fair earlier this month which had really great attendance."
Registration for recreational programs opens on September 10 at ActiveWindsor.ca.
"We're trying as hard as we can to get back to where we were based on what people are looking for so it is a continual work in progress for us," said Knights.
