Proposed Lakeshore gaming centre up for consultation

The Municipality of Lakeshore wants to hear from residents about a proposed charity gaming centre.

As part of placing a gaming site in the community, the Municipality has asked for public consultation on the matter, with two sessions scheduled for September.

A proposal was presented to the Municipality last month from the Community Gaming and Entertainment Group (CGEG), which would like to set up the Power Play Gaming Centre on Advance Boulevard off Patillo Road.

The administration will take the information gathered from these sessions and prepare a summary for Lakeshore Council, which will then decide on approving the proposal.

The plan also requires the approval of Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

A virtual public consultation will take place on Monday, September 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. An in-person session will be held on Wednesday, September 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Atlas Tube Centre in Belle River. Residents can also submit written comments via an online survey, which will be operational until Monday, September 19.

The CGEG operates four charitable gaming centres in Windsor-Essex, according to its official website. Since its inception over 20 years ago, it has provided over $50-million in donations to hundreds of local charities, non-profits, and service clubs across the region.
