Where everybody knows your name, Cramdon's, up for sale

Marc McAfrey and Don McPherson wanted to create a place where everybody knows your name, but after 25 years, the business partners have decided to retire.

They own and operate Cramdon's, a neighbourhood staple in South Windsor. They broke the news on social media earlier this week.

"Marc and Donnie have both been in this business a long, long time," said McAfrey's wife, Cathy. "They want to maybe do something else or have a little bit more time with family. It's been very, very bittersweet, scary, exciting."

The bar and grill on Dougall Avenue at Grand Marais Road is listed on MLS for $675,000.

Cathy McAfrey says it was McPherson's wife that came up with the name.

"Cramdon is Marc's name backwards -- and then she put Don, and they liked the Honeymooners, and it kinda went from there," she explained.

They took inspiration from another neighbourhood bar, the fictional TV tap house "Cheers."

"They wanted to open that place that was your community place and it built relationships," said McAfrey.

In the meantime, she said those with an event booked at Cramdon's need not worry.

"It's business as normal," McAfrey said. "We have commitments until the end of the year. We have weddings booked. We have Christmas parties."

As Cramdon's chapter in her life ends and begins with the new owners, McAfrey has one wish.

"We are hoping somebody sees the potential that Cramdon's is, and loves the staff, and loves what we've created, and will keep it going."
