Stiff penalties await accused stunt driver nabbed three times

Windsor Police say a driver in the city faces up to $37,500 in fines, possibly 18 months in jail, and maybe even a lifetime driving ban.

Police said they pulled the driver over three times in three months for allegedly stunt driving.

The first incident was on March 18 when officers stopped a vehicle going more than three times the speed limit in a 50 km/h zone.

The officer clocked the vehicle at 152 km/h.

The vehicle was impounded, but last Sunday, police pulled over the same driver, this time behind the wheel of a Dodge Challenger.

Investigators said the driver was doing donuts in a parking lot, intentionally causing the vehicle to spin its wheels and lose traction.

The Dodge Challenger went to the impound yard, but the driver allegedly found another vehicle to drive, a Dodge Minivan.

The third time, police said the vehicle was going 115 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

Each count of stunt driving carries a penalty of six demerit points, a 30-day license suspension, a two-week vehicle impoundment, and a fine between $2,000 and $10,000 for a first offence. If the driver is convicted, they could lose their license for a year and face imprisonment for up to six months.
