Additional Windsor-Essex beaches have reported elevated bacterial contamination following the latest round of testing.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) conducted its weekly beach testing and found that four public beaches had bacteria levels high enough to qualify for a beach warning.
Under a beach warning, swimming is strongly discouraged as E.coli levels in the water may be high enough to cause digestive-related illness.
The beaches under a "code yellow" are Holiday Beach in Amherstburg, Point Pelee North West Beach in Leamington, Seacliff Beach in Leamington, and Sandpoint Beach in Windsor.
The testing was conducted by the health unit on Monday. All of the beaches under warning reported an E.coli reading of at least 294. Sandpoint Beach reported the highest reading at 865.
The four remaining public beaches in Windsor-Essex have no swimming restrictions. They are Colchester Beach in Essex, Cedar Beach, and Cedar Island Beach in Kingsville; and Lakeview Park West Beach in Lakeshore.
