Lakeshore buys site of former Stoney Point Tavern

The Municipality of Lakeshore is adding to one of its parks by purchasing the site of a former tavern.

Lakeshore has completed the purchase of the Stoney Point Tavern site, at 7340 County Road 2. The building will be demolished later this year, with the land becoming part of the Stoney Point Community Park.

"The purchase of this property is the next step for Stoney Point Community Park," said Mayor Tracey Bailey in a media release. "As a council, we know that the residents of Stoney Point/Point-aux-Roches have been eager to find out what the future holds. We appreciate everyone’s patience, and we are excited to finally be able to make this announcement."

The Municipality is in the process of community involvement for the park. It began in the spring of 2022 when public visioning sessions took place. Feedback from that round of public comment uncovered the need for a public access point off Tecumseh Road. Councillors then asked the administration to investigate potential solutions, including the purchase of adjacent properties.

The tavern's owner began negotiations with Lakeshore in May, and the sale was closed last month for $350,000, which came from the Municipality's Parkland Dedication Reserve Fund.

The Municipality said the tavern site may be used for additional parking or other purposes.

A public open house is the next step in the process, and that will take place sometime this fall. Two draft concept plans will be available for public viewing and comment.

Complete information on the Stoney Point Community Park visioning process can be found on Lakeshore's official website.
