Windsor police have removed the "interim" from the title of one deputy chief and announced a second one.
The Windsor Police Services Board announced Friday afternoon that Jason Crowley has been named the permanent Deputy Chief of Operations. The board also announced that Karel DeGraaf will be the Acting Deputy Chief of Operational Support.
Crowley had been serving in that capacity on an acting basis since April 2022, when Jason Bellaire was appointed Acting Chief upon the retirement of Pam Mizuno.
Crowley made headlines earlier this year after officers from the Amherstburg detachment pulled him over for stunt driving. The matter was referred to the Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC).
DeGraaf will serve in his new role for at least six months, according to the board.
"This appointment comes as a pivotal move to support Deputy Chief [Frank] Providenti in addressing a series of crucial internal matters," read a media release from the board. "Deputy Chief Providenti will continue in his role until March 29, 2024, to ensure a seamless transition."
