The mayor of Lakeshore has been named to a group of elected officials working on Great Lakes sustainability issues.
Tracey Bailey has been invited to join the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, which already includes about 250 mayors and other officials from Canada and the U.S.
"Lake St. Clair is critical to much of our water infrastructure and is a significant economic driver," said Bailey in a media release. "I look forward to engaging with my colleagues to work on solutions that encourage investment, protect residents and their properties, and ensure the Great Lakes basin can continue to sustain our communities for generations to come."
Bailey will work with other mayors to ensure that all residents have access to safe, clean drinking water, prepare for the effects of climate change, and encourage sustainability.
“Cities and local governments are on the frontlines of the biggest challenges facing communities in the basin," said Initiative Chair Gino Moretti. "Working together, we can better prepare our communities for climate change, tap into new economic opportunities for our region, and avert the water crises and conflicts impacting other regions of North America and the world."
