Workforce WindsorEssex has released a new resource to help traditional auto manufacturing workers transition to careers in the electric vehicle sector.
The website highlights transferrable skills and identifies areas where additional training may be necessary.
"To provide suggestions for career transitions for those with automotive or manufacturing experience that wish to transition into an E.V. sector career," said Corey Shenken, special project lead with Workforce WindsorEssex.
He said the tool aims to ensure no one in the community is left behind.
"We're trying to really be a leader in helping the individuals who may lose their jobs to be able to transition to the many new jobs that are being created as a result of the electrification," said Shenken.
Linda Poho, Coordinator of the Unifor Local 195 Action Centre, works with individuals who were laid off at Syncreon Automotive last year to find jobs.
"I believe the platform that they have launching today will be an excellent resource tool for not just the Syncreon workers but for all Unifor workers and anyone laid off or wanting to transition to the EV sector," said Poho.
Last month, Workforce WindsorEssex and Invest WindsorEssex launched a new job search website for people actively looking for jobs in the sector.
