University of Windsor Chancellor announces departure

After six years as Chancellor at the University of Windsor, Doctor Mary Jo Haddad plans to step down.

Her last day will be May 31, 2025.

Haddad decided to announce her decision now to facilitate the search for her replacement and a smooth transition.

Over the next nine months, Haddad intends to remain actively involved in the convocation.

She was installed as Chancellor in the spring of 2019 and is the first woman to hold the prestigious position in the university's history.

During her tenure, she launched the Chancellor's Leadership Series to engage intellectual leaders and inspire the next generation by advancing scholarship in leadership, innovation, sustainability, and diversity.

In addition to being an influential university ambassador and role model for students, faculty and staff, Haddad advanced important campus projects and capital campaigns.

"We deeply appreciate Mary Jo's incredible dedication to the university and our Windsor-Essex region," said University of Windsor President Doctor Robert Gordon. "Her exemplary leadership, service, support, and advocacy have made a significant impact on the university and the community."

Haddad previously served as the President and CEO of The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She was the founding chair of the MaRS Innovation and Children First Canada. Her list of achievements also includes becoming a Member of the Order of Canada in 2010, receiving the Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, and the Premier's Award for Outstanding Achievement.
