The family will be the reason many Ontarians will be off on Monday.
Monday is Family Day, a provincial holiday in Ontario. That means many businesses across Windsor-Essex will be either closed or on shortened hours.
All provincial and municipal offices are closed on Monday. ServiceOntario offices are among them, with some transactions able to be performed online.
Canada Post will be open on Monday, though, with mail delivery as usual.
All four of the public school boards serving Windsor-Essex will take Monday off. St. Clair College and the University of Windsor are also off. Classes resume on Tuesday at all schools except for U of W, where it is Reading Week.
Some big-box stores and chain restaurants will be closed on Monday, or on abbreviated hours. Call ahead to avoid disappointment.
All Beer Store and LCBO outlets are open normal hours on Sunday but are closed on Family Day. Grocery stores and convenience stores that sell alcoholic beverages may continue to do so per provincial guidelines.
Devonshire Mall is open Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tecumseh Mall is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Central, Budimir, and Riverside branches of the Windsor Public Library are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Family Day. All other branches are closed with the entire system open at normal hours on Tuesday.
All Essex County Library branches are closed on Monday, reopening on Tuesday.
The 311 call centre is closed but will be open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Access to information about City of Windsor services is available on the 311 app.
The 211 service line will be open 24 hours as usual Monday.
Residential garbage and recyclable collection in Windsor will not take place on Family Day, with pickup delayed by one day. Commercial garbage collection usually scheduled for Monday will take place as normal. Refer to your waste collection calendar for details or check the 311 app.
The public drop-off depot on Central Avenue and the E.C. Row Expressway is closed on Family Day.
Most community centres, customer care centres, and arenas in Windsor are closed Monday, except for previously booked rentals.
At the WFCU Centre, the rinks will be open for regular ice rentals. A Family Day skate will run from 10:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., on the Corporal A.P. Grenon and Canadian Veterans Memorial rink. The WFCU Centre will also be hosting drop-in pickleball from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., drop-in basketball from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and then from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Windsor Spitfires will host the Owen Sound Attack for their traditional Family Day matinee. Puck drop is at 2:05 p.m.
The indoor pool at the WFCU Centre will hold a public swim on Monday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The indoor pool at the Marcus Community Complex will be open from 9:30 to 12 noon on Monday for a Mat-tacular Minis program. The Marcus pool, though, will be closed.
The Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre's pool and fitness centre will be open Monday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Adventure Day Family Water Park will be open Family Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Homelessness and Housing Help (H4) Hub at Windsor Water World will be open 24 hours as usual for people experiencing homelessness.
There is no parking enforcement in Windsor on Sunday or Monday. Metered street spaces are free but parking garages are open and paid as usual. The city’s parking payment offices are closed, but payments will still be taken online.
Transit Windsor buses will run on Sunday-holiday schedules. Transit Windsor’s customer service office downtown will be closed.
The Francois Baby House and the Chimczuk Museum in Windsor are closed Monday, their usual days off.
