Windsor-West MP Brian Masse wants the Competition Bureau of Canada to keep a close eye on prices at grocery stores during the trade war.
Masse said Canadian grocery stores have have a history of taking advantage of shoppers.
"Whether it be the price-fixing scandal for bread which was a significant issue and then most recently there's been discrepancies over the weighing of meat, we just can't trust the grocery store chains to pass on the proper costs," said Masse.
He noted there has been no evidence of price fixing at this time, he just wants the Competition Bureau to keep an eye on things.
"I do appreciate the fact that some of the grocery store chains are doing their best to restock with Canadian supplies and content. That element is good, but at the same time i just want to make sure that the tariffs don't become an excuse for the abuse of customers," said Masse.
He has not yet received a response from the Competition Bureau of Canada.
