Community celebrates seniors grants

The federal government provided 28 local organizations with nearly $600,000 to support seniors in the community.

The grants, ranging from $10,000 to $25,000, will help seniors stay active, informed, and socially connected to their communities.

"Connecting seniors together so that you break through that isolation that truly is a scourge in communities like ours and communities across Canada. Helping to connect seniors to beat that loneliness," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk.

Organizations supported through the grant include the Royal Canadian Legion, South Asian Centre of Windsor, Windsor Lawn Bowling Club, and Windsor Islamic Association.

"We get the same seniors showing up week after week, and it's the highlight of their life, they really enjoy it," said Bruce Tribute, president of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 255.

All grants were distributed through the 2024-2025 New Horizons for Seniors Program.
