OPP arrest five people suspected of impaired driving

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were again busy dealing with suspected impaired drivers on the weekend.

Two of them were in Essex, two were in Lakeshore, and one in Leamington.

The first was shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday on Tecumseh Road East near Lighthouse Road in Lakeshore.

Following up on a complaint by another driver, a 21-year-old from Pain Court is charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving, and driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.

The second was involved in a single-vehicle crash shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Walker Road and County Road 8.

A 19-year-old driver from Essex has been charged with impaired driving and driving with excessive blood-alcohol levels.

The third was shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday on County Road 42 near Lakeshore Road 129 in Lakeshore. It was also the result of a traffic complaint.

A 30-year-old driver from Belle River has been charged with impaired driving and driving with excessive blood-alcohol levels.

The fourth one was during a traffic stop on Walker Road just before 10 p.m. on Sunday.

A 50-year-old driver from Windsor is also charged with impaired driving, and driving with excessive blood-alcohol levels.

The fifth and final one was early Monday morning in Leamington.

Officers responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. to a collision at the intersection of County Road 33 South and Mersea Road 2.

A 28-year-old from Leamington is charged with impaired driving and failure to obey a demand from an officer.

All five drivers have had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.

The charges have not been proven in court.

All drivers will respond to the counts in a Windsor court in early April.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
