Windsor getting Ontario Works cheques out during Canada Post dispute

The City of Windsor wants to ensure Ontario Works clients receive their cheques on time, but with Canada Post workers refusing to work overtime, it's made some changes.

Those who receive their income support cheques through direct deposit won't have to do anything different. Direct deposit payments aren't impacted by the labour dispute at Canada Post.

Those who receive their cheque through the mail will have to pick those up in person. Those who need a new Reloadable Payment Card can also pick those up at City Hall.

Those who need to pick up their cheque for June can do so on Friday, May 30 and Monday, June 2, between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 400 City Hall Square East, Suite 102.

Those in Leamington can pick them up on those days between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 33 Princess Street.

Those clients will need to bring with them two pieces of government-issued identification, including one with a photo.

The status of the payment is available on the MyBenefits app, and clients should call 1-800-808-2268 before picking up their cheque.

Vendors and landlords who support Ontario Works clients can pick up their cheques at 350 City Hall Square West on Friday, May 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Those picking up cheques for a third party must present a letter from the vendor authorizing the pickup.

An Ontario Works Caseworker is available at 519-255-5200.
