Windsor police arrest four in cheque fraud scheme

Three men and one woman have been charged after Windsor police uncovered multiple instances of fraud.

Investigators with the Financial Crimes Unit looked into 17 fraudulent transactions made between February 18 and March 24. Police say the four people used forged cheques that had belonged to the owner of a flooring business.

Police believed that the owner had discarded the cheques, which were retrieved by the suspects.

The total loss is $13,120.

While looking through surveillance footage taken at financial institutions throughout Windsor, police were able to identify the four suspects.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman on Wednesday in the area of Sandwich Street and Watkins Street.

Both are charged with fraud over $5,000, obtaining funds by false pretenses over $5,000, uttering forged documents, possession of stolen property, and two counts each of failure to comply with a probation order.

Two additional men, aged 56 and 44, have each been charged with fraud over $5,000, obtaining funds by false pretenses over $5,000, uttering forged documents, and possession of stolen property.

The charges have not been proven in court.
