Big changes to transit for some high school students

Students who attend Holy Names Catholic High School, Vincent Massey Secondary School, Riverside Secondary School, and St. Joseph's Catholic High School will notice big changes to Transit Windsor starting on the first day of school.

This fall, those students will transition from using dedicated "school extras", or transit buses dedicated to handling passenger overflow from those schools, to integrated bus routes, joining the rest of the student population using the broader Windsor Transit network.

Transit Windsor's outreach team has visited each impacted high school, engaging with hundreds of students. The success of those visits prompted both the Greater Essex County District School Board and the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board to invite the outreach teams back for Grade 9 orientation last week.

Grade 8 students who will be attending those schools for the first time also received information from the outreach team helping them prepare for the new school year.

Those sessions familarized students with digital tools like Google Maps, Transit App, Where's My Bus, and Moovit.

The new routes went live on Saturday in mobile apps. The resources are also available at Transit Windsor's website.

Those who need a new bus card must visit the Downtown Windsor International Terminal in person with at least one piece of government-issued identification.

The terminal is open on Monday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for anyone who needs to buy a new bus card.
