Residents invited to annual Khalsa Day Parade in downtown Windsor this weekend

The Annual Windsor Sikh Khalsa Day (Nagar Kirtan) Parade is this Sunday, and the local Sikh community is inviting the entire Windsor-Essex community.

The parade is part of a greater celebration of faith, heritage, and community organized by the Sikh Society of Metropolitan Windsor. Cultural displays and free food will be available at the Riverside Festival Plaza between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

There will also be some road closures during the parade.

Windsor Police said the following roads will shut down at 11:45 a.m. and reopen around 2:30 p.m.

* Riverside Drive East from Glengarry Avenue to Caron Avenue

* Caron Avenue from Riverside Drive East to University Avenue West

* University Avenue West from Caron Avenue to Bruce Avenue

* Bruce Avenue from University avenue West to Riverside Drive East

* Riverside Drive East from Bruce Avenue to Glengarry Avenue.

The parade will end at Riverside Festival Plaza.

Khalsa Day celebrates the creation of the Khalsa order in 1966 by Guru Gobind Singh, dedicating Sikhs to a life of service, equality, and faith.
