Health unit urges residents to get their shots

Starting Monday, flu and Covid-19 vaccines are available to those six months and up who live, work, or goes to school in Ontario at no cost.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is encouraging residents to get those shots and, if eligible, to get the RSV vaccine.

The vaccines are already available for those in high-risk or priority populations. That includes patients and staff in hospitals, residents and staff in long-term care homes, retirement homes, and other congregate settings, seniors, and first responders.

Under the province's RSV Prevention Program, adults aged 75 and those who are at least 60 and considered high-risk can get the shot. Earlier this month, the vaccine became available for eligible babies.

Immunization helps reduce the risk of severe illness, complications, and hospitalizations.

To book an appointment at the health unit, call 519-258-2146 ext. 1121. The health unit will offer seasonal immunization clinics to all residents who make an appointment.
