UPDATE: Crash on County Road 22 kills three

Police now say three people are dead after a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning on County Road 22.

Just after 6 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police, Lakeshore firefighters, and Essex-Windsor EMS responded to the crash between Manning Road and West Pike Creek Road in Lakeshore.

The OPP say a vehicle entered the opposite lane of traffic and struck another vehicle, causing minor damage. The wrong-way vehicle then struck a second vehicle head-on.

Two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger in one of the vehicles was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the victim was pronounced deceased, but regained vital signs while at the hospital. A later update from the OPP said the person had, in fact, died.

A second passenger has been airlifted to the London Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries.

Police say a total of six vehicles were involved in the collision, but the other four sustained minor damage with no additional injuries.

County Road 22 between Manning Road and West Pike Creek Road was shut down for over nine hours. It reopened at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police ask anyone with information or dashcam video of the collision to come forward by contacting the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The OPP also reminds drivers not to call the emergency line to inquire about road closures, as such calls tie up resources needed to respond to emergencies.

*An earlier version of this story said there were three deceased from the collision. The OPP has updated the information to say one victim regained vital signs at the hospital. A second update stated the victim had died.
