This year's Ontario Hybrid Corn Performance Trials reflect the same kind of problems the rest of the provincial crop had this year.
Hybrids were planted at 22 locations.
Trials at Winchester and Ridgetown were discarded because of uneven emergence.
The Wingham trial was discarded because of excessive bird damage.
The Eastern Ontario trials were damaged by the late September frost.
Very high winds in late November resulted in high levels of lodging at Exeter, Ilderton, Kerwood and Orangeville.
And the cool growing season means moisture contents are higher than usual and test weights lower than normal at most locations.
The trial results are available on-line at www.gocorn.net.
That includes yield index, moisture, lodging and test weight information to help farmers choose hybrids suitable for their farms next year.
The Ontario Corn Committee is not publishing a printed report this year.
