Wild Chervil Added To Schedule Of Noxious Weeds

With the new year comes some changes to Ontario's Schedule of Noxious Weeds.

9 weeds have been removed from the list, 9 others have been added.

The additions include wild chervil, smooth bedstraw and Kudzu.

The ones being taken off the list include Scotch thistle, wild carrot and Russian thistle.

Some of those being removed are considered a food source for pollinators.

All those being removed are no longer considered significant threats to agricultural or horticultural production and can be managed through modern management practices.

The weeds being added are considered new and emerging concerns.

Putting weeds on the schedule gives weed inspectors another tool to control these non-native plants to minimize interference with agriculture or horticulture.

Landowners with any of the plants on the Schedule of Noxious Weeds and are negatively impacting agriculture and horticultural lands must destroy it.

A full, updated list of plants on the schedule - and what can be done about them - is on the OMAFRA website.
