A new cooperative has been formed to help develop bio processing facilities in Ontario for crop residue materials.
Dave Park is President of the Sarnia-based Cellulosic Sugar Producers Co-operative.
Cellulosic sugar is derived from crop residue and is used in the production of biofuel and bio chemicals.
Park says the cooperative is an excellent way to develop new markets for crop residue materials and new business opportunities for Ontario producers.
The CSPC directors will be doing critical assessments on logistics and investment models as additional field trials are conducted.
The idea is to support a new business case for investment in Ontario's bioeconomy.
Ontario Federation of Agriculture President Don McCabe says it's essential to have groups like the CSPC take local leadership to help attract investment for this new market initiative.
