Direct Marketing Working For Grey County Farm Couple

A Grey County farmer says small sustainable farming operations can make direct marketing work.

Tarrah Young and her husband Nathan farm near Neustadt.

Their's is a diverse operation raising vegetables, chickens and some beef, lamb and pork.

They market their goods through what's called Community Supported Agriculture.

They have regular customers and sell directly to them.

They gross about 100 thousand dollars a year.

Tarrah Young says it's working for them.

"I've found for us direct marketing is a great way to sell our food and it's a great way to connect with customers. It's means customers get what they're looking for but they also get to know the people who grew or produced their food and it means we get to know who's eating our food which is really rewarding," said Young.

She says their direct marketing strategies include piggybacking with other producers and word of mouth, which includes social media.

Tarrah Young was a guest speaker at Ecological at Grey Bruce Farmers Week in Elmwood.
