Canadian Pork Council Chair Stepping Aside

The Canadian Pork Council will be looking for a new chair this year.

Jean Guy Vincent says he's stepping down after three years as Council chair.

Vincent says international trade agreements currently in the works will help Canada's hog sector.

But he warns the ongoing battle with the U-S over COOL continues to cost the industry time and money.

With over 70 per cent of Canadian pork production sent to international markets, Vincent says problems in Russia create disruptions and challenges for the sector.

He believes Canada's pork industry needs to focus on increasing market share in stable markets like Japan and Korea.

His comments on wrapping up his term as CPC chair also made reference to the impact of PED.

Vincent urges co-ordination of disease management through the Canadian Pork Council to increase efficiency and eliminate unnecessary duplication in those programs.

The CPC is a federation of nine provincial pork industry associations serving as the national voice for Canadian hog producers.
