OSCIA Says Farmers Deserve Greater Consideration In Neonic Discussion

Ontario Soil and Crop officials say they're disappointed with the recent direction taken by the province on the use of neo-nic treated seeds.

OSCIA argues Ontario producers deserve greater consideration.

The Association has made it's response to the posting of those regulations public.

In that response, OSCIA says it solidly supports best practices developed in response to science.

It contends that any choices that further restrict the use of neo-nic treated seeds must be made in ways that build on the good will Ontario farmers have demostrated in applying best practices.

It also says any such moves must assure a productive and profitable sector going forward.

The OSCIA response calls the government's proposal complex, heavy handed and premature.

It also points out that the proposal appears to disregard the permitted use supported federally by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency.

Individuals can post their own response to the proposals to the government.

Deadline for those responses is January 25th.
